They described responding to a newspaper advertisement in which someone stated that they wanted to buy fur coats, old typewriters, sewing machines, evening wear and carpets, among other things. In all cases, an unknown man appeared. In all of them, he then intrusively asked for jewelry and gold. None of the people agreed. One witness described that the advertisement was in the "Purchase" section with the heading "Daniel is looking for". In two cases, witnesses observed that the supposed buyers arrived in cars with a WN license plate. In one case, the car was described as a VW Golf.
