With the onset of the dark season, the number of burglaries increases. Good advice is not always expensive when it comes to improving burglary protection.

Many buildings have already been fitted with mechanical security systems in recent years. "However, there are still many that are not protected against burglary at all or only inadequately," says Ulrike Twiehofffrom the Prevention/Protection Department of the Coesfeld District Police Authority.

The time factor plays a major role. "If perpetrators are not successful within 20 to 30 seconds, they abandon the attempt," says the chief detective. Most burglars break in after prying open windows or patio doors. Retrofittable mushroom cam fittings can make this more difficult, explains Ulrike Twiehoff.

There are also tips from professionals on securing house and apartment doors. "For example, these should have a multi-point lock and a good profile cylinder with drilling and pulling protection."

After a burglary, it is often not the material or financial damage that affects victims afterwards. Ulrike Twiehoff explains that those affected have to deal with it psychologically above all. "Burglars attack the most personal living space when they search through drawers and cupboards," she says.
